It’s interesting to see how much more fun the story has become, because you’d never know it from the fact that it’s about a parent who gave the cucumber to their child.
I have to admit that the story has become much more interesting since I first read it.

Luckily, the owner of the home, a young woman named Annie, is an expert on pickling and has a very good point about pickling.

In the 90s Annie gave pickles to the children of the poor and gave pickling lessons to the people in the village. This is the story of Annie’s picking and pickling.
This was a fascinating story and I really enjoyed it. I will say that I can understand how the idea of pickling might have been a bit taboo for the time. It’s a time when food was considered the most important of the seven deadly sins, and pickling was a way to make food more affordable during a time when a lot of families lived on a “two square meal” budget.
I have to give a nod to the pickler who decided that one of his friends needed to learn pickling so he could be able to pickle him. I can’t imagine why anyone would have wanted to learn to pickle an animal that only ate pickles. I can only imagine it’s a way to get a pickle for a bargain price, but whatever.
